What Bottlenose Dolphins Eat

Dolphins can live and thrive in all different types enviorments. They eat many different things like fish, squid and crustaceans such as crabs and shrimp. These are only a few types of foods dolphins eat but they are the main ones.

Where Bottlenose Dolphins Live

Dolphins live in tropical water and all types of reefs. They can live in all types of habitats which include:

  • Harbors
  • Bays
  • Gulfs
  • Estuaries
  • Nearshore coastal waters
  • Deep waters
  • Reefs
    • Dolphins live in packs and live with their families.

    Comunication

    Dolphins comunicate through something called ecolocation. Ecolocation is not just used for communication, it is also used for hunting and locating other animals and items in the sea.

    Babies and Lifespan

    When dolphins are born they can live for 60 or more years. When they are just 5 years old they can start having babies! Wild dolphins can give birth every 3-5 years.

    Threats

    There are many threats to dolphins. To begin with, fishing lines! When people throw fishing lines in the water a dolphin could get stuck in the fishing line and get severely injured, or even die. When they leave these lines in the ocean it becomes harmful for more creatures, and not justb dolphins. Secondly, habitat destruction, when the ecosystem gets damaged, the food source becomes scarce and the dolphins will have less food to live off. Third microplastics, when afish eats microplastics and gets sick. Then if the dolphin eats it she or he will also get sick.
